Budgeting in Small Businesses

PAST EVENT (14 May 2013) The future is always uncertain, but if you have a plan you are better prepared to face challenges and take advantage of new opportunities. Learn how to prepare and use budgets (financial plans) to help your organisation meet the future. This is a practical course which will discuss preparing budgets and implementing budgetary control in small organisations. Topics to be covered include: Why prepare budgets? Steps to developing sound Operational Budgets. The importance of feeding these into a Master Budget to map the future (Income Statement, Balance Sheet and Cash Budgets will be covered). The use of spreadsheets in preparing budgets and monitoring performance. The course will comprise two lectures: In the first lecture, the basic principles of budget will be explained and the different types of budgets and their interaction discussed. The second lecture will work through a detailed spreadsheet example, showing how a budget is prepared and developing a Master Budget. Course notes and sample spreadsheets will be emailed to participants at the end of the course. About the presenter Colin Sinclair has over 30 years of practical experience in budgeting, in both small and large industrial companies, as well as 10 years of lecturing in Management Accounting and Financial Management. He has degrees in Accounting and Management Accounting, and before retirement, was a member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants.
