Life Long Learning-KZN (LLLKzn) is a non-profit organisation operating in the greater Durban area which offers educational events to the general public. From 1971, the former University of Natal offered continuing education sessions to adults but these educational sessions ceased at the end of 2006 with the retirement of the staff involved and other factors. In 2008 a voluntary association was formed for the primary purpose of re-starting such a programme for attendees who wish to further their knowledge and skills through lifelong learning activities. We offer talks and lectures in potentially 17 different knowledge “tracks”, depending on the energies and interests in relevant, current and stimulating topics. We offer “how to” workshops on the latest in IT and digital gadgets plus hands-on DIY and “greening”. We do pay our lecturers and facilitators for their expertise and thus charge a nominal fee for attendance.
Even with all the knowledge the internet has to offer there is a powerful synergy in having individuals gather in one place to concentrate on a presentation and discuss its implications face-to-face. Our motto of
learning for now learning for lifewill hopefully give people a renewed confidence when gathering with like-minded individuals.
Come to learn - share ideas - leave inspired
